Leveling the playing field in graduate studies

小部件

The TRIO 罗纳德·E 麦克奈尔 Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program is a graduate school preparatory program funded by the U.S. Department of Education and sponsored by UW-欧克莱尔. Named after American astronaut Dr. 罗纳德·麦克奈尔, the 麦克奈尔 program aims to level the playing field in graduate education and diversify the American research community by first generation status, 社会经济地位, 和种族.

愿景

The goal of the 麦克奈尔计划 is to increase attainment of PhD degrees by students from underrepresented segments of society. This includes first-generation low-income individuals and members from racial and ethnic groups historically underrepresented in graduate programs. 在威斯康星大学欧克莱尔分校, we prefer working with scholars who are ambitious about entering graduate school immediately upon graduation. 我们的希望是最终, our scholars will go on to earn a Master's degree and ultimately, 博士学位.

目的

The purpose of the 麦克奈尔 program is to provide underrepresented college students with effective preparation 为 research-based doctoral study. 每年, the 麦克奈尔 program recruits up to thirteen eligible students, 成为“麦克奈尔学者”. With the help of a dedicated faculty mentor, the 2-year 麦克奈尔 program prepares Blugolds 为 graduate-level studies with an end goal of 博士学位. The 麦克奈尔 program aligns with the institutional mission of UW-欧克莱尔 and directly contributes to the university guidepost goal of closing the opportunity gap in higher education.

为什么我们需要麦克奈尔计划

A doctoral degree bestows benefits that last a lifetime. These include the highest annual median income compared to lower levels of educational attainment, an unemployment rate of nearly zero percent, a lifetime earnings curve that is much higher than lower levels of educational attainment, and a wide array of research and academic employment possibilities.

The 麦克奈尔 program is aimed at leveling the playing field in graduate-level education by preparing academically talented students from low-income, first-generation and underrepresented backgrounds 为 graduate-level education, with the ultimate objective of completing doctoral studies. As more and more disadvantaged students go on to earn doctoral degrees, they receive the stated benefits of this degree and go on to pass these benefits on to future generations. The intergenerational benefits of educational attainment begin with each 麦克奈尔 scholar.
